Passport fees at a glance

  • You often pay two separate fees: the application fee (to the U.S. Department of State) and the $35 execution/acceptance fee (to the acceptance facility) when applying with Form DS‑11. Renewals by mail (DS‑82) do not pay the execution fee.
  • Optional add‑ons you can tack onto the application fee: $60 Expedited service and $22.05 1–2 day return delivery (book only; U.S. addresses).
  • Two payments are required for DS‑11 applications. The application fee is paid to “U.S. Department of State”; the execution fee is paid to the facility.

Heads up: Paying the wrong amount or combining fees into a single payment can delay processing. Follow the tables and payment notes below and check the links at the end for the official fee page from the U.S. Department of State.
